Travelling to Pécs:
  • International Travellers should travel via BUDAPEST which is the capital of Hungary. The airport, called Ferihegy, is denoted BUD.
  • Pécs is 200 km south of Budapest. Travel from the airport can be accomplished in three ways:
    1. Using the Minibus Shuttle:
Minibuses should be pre-booked via the web and the service provided is door-to-door, from the airport to the hotel in Pécs. (This is the recommended way as it is probably the most convenient.) Two companies provide this service:
    2. The journey takes about two and a half hours but includes one stop at a motorway service station. Charge is around 30 Euros each way.

    3. By Train:
The timetable timetable of the trains can be reached from the web. Travelling time of the train is 2.5 hours. In this case taxi transfer must first be taken between Ferihegy airport and the Budapest railway station. Airport taxis are operate at the airport.

Please ensure that you select an inter-city train but note that a seat reservation is required. This can be booked on line or bought at the ticket office at the station.

    4. Hire Car:
Travel by Motorway 6. Hire Cars are available from the Airport but you need to pre-book. Allow 3 hours for the journey.
  • FYI: Professor Topping has done this transfer many times over the last twenty years using all of the three ways above. He says that the Minibus Shuttle works really well.

  • Public transport in Pécs

With a well-established local bus network the outer parts of the historic city centre surrounded by the old city wall can be easily accessed from all directions. Once you are in the city centre the best way to explore the sights, the beauty spots and hidden treasures of Pécs is by walking. If you would like to discover the sights on the Mecsek Hill we recommend that you use public transport as well.
